ABOUT

Muwei Wang is a New York based, China born, artist. Muwei Wang currently work as a part-time freelance illustrator specializing in traditional drawing and painting while also studied in SVA as a college student.

Muwei’s understanding of nature has been profoundly influenced by Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring, especially the line, “We have forgotten that we ourselves are a part of nature, and the destruction of nature will ultimately rebound on us.” This idea resonates deeply with him and often inspires his work. Through his art, he explores the fragile relationship between humans and the environment, capturing moments of vulnerability but also imagining paths to renewal. His pieces reflect this tension, inviting viewers to consider their own role within these stories.

Born in Chengdu, China, a city rich in history and culture, Muwei developed a fascination with traditional architecture from an early age. He enjoys sketching these ancient structures during his walks, using charcoal to capture their unique lines and textures. He discovered that the natural versatility of charcoal—its ability to convey both boldness and subtlety. Through this medium, he captures not just the physical details but the atmosphere and emotions tied to these spaces. It’s a way for him to connect with the past while expressing his own vision, where tradition and modernity naturally come together.
